The World Cup Final: Holland vs Spain

To be honest the whole World Cup has been a bitter disappointment to me. The standard of football has been pretty awful in my humble opinion and I'm not just talking about England! Now its just down to the 3rd place place off and final itself and to be honest,I'll be glad when its over. No more annoying vuvuzela's,no more smug Lineker,no more high-pitched Jonathan Pearce,no more Adrian Chiles,no more balls flying 500 feet over the bar & no more diving Robben. Yep I'm really going to miss it!

I think Spain will win the World Cup final 1 0 and Germany will win the 3rd place play-off 2 1

What about you?

  2. I was fourteen in 1974,and,like many people of my age,it's 36 years we're waiting a refund to the dutchs...but the team of today resemble the 1974 Holland only in the shirts...Germany had played, only sometimes, the best football of the world cup but this doesn't seem on the match with Spain...I had watched the matchs on internet(BBC,ESPN or ITV)and they are better and better than italian tv,really you don't know how shit it is...cheers

  3. Welcome roberto. Yes I remember the 74 World Cup final too and I was only 10! That Dutch side were probably the greatest never to have won the World Cup - total football and great to watch. Good luck tomorrow.....but my head says Spain will pip the orangemen.

  4. Spain plays really, really fine...they are the best team in the world currently, without any doubt. Iniesta, Villa, Xabi, Ramos and others are all terrific players....If you love football you must recognize this team plays pretty nice....So,I hope Spain wins the world cup 2010.
    Cheers from Bilbao

  5. Welcome Iker. Yes on paper Spain are the best team in the World......but they haven't really played like it yet in this tournament.

Hopefully it will be an exciting final.

    Cheers.

  6. hey longy,hows things?
well im writing this in work and like most everyone else that works here all they can talk about is who the next manager is going to be.the fans fave it seems would be mark hughes but it seems the powers that be want sven to take over.i dont really care as im a utd fan so it makes no diffrence to me but i really cant see sven being a popular appointment.anyhoo ill be here all season with all kinds of news from the west london whites.see you at the bridge!

  7. Welcome gobshyte - I'm good thanks. Well if Fulham go for the overated Swede, then I won't be surprised that the fans are not happy. I'm amazed Liverpool went for Hodgson to be honest. They should of gone for Guus Hiddink imo.

  8. Hello Longy

Why were Germany so negative against Spain?Very strange. You can not give Spain time and space.Spain are the best club but Holland are also very good.I must admit some of the 'diving' by some players is pitiful. One excellent diver is a former Chelsea player.

As for a third place match it is not necessary. It is usually a pretty good game because it has little meaning. If Germany decides to play they will defeat Uruguay easily.

    Prediction for the final:

    Spain 2 The Netherlands 1

    Cheers

  9. Hello

    Holland 3-0
    Germany 2-1

I'll be at the pub tonight, but not only to look at football.

I prefer Holland mostly cos friends of mine move to Holland from Sweden.

Hope you will have fun on this blog.

    Best wishes from Sweden

  10. Welcome Doug and arstider.

I don't know why Germany were so negative Doug. I was very disappointed with them in that game. Hopefully they'll do better tonight.

3 0 Holland artider? You have been drinking too much whiskey again! I hope to see you in the pub again next season :)

  11. hahaha Holland wins the cup

We're not Germany who were afraid to play their own football

We Dutch transformed the Spanish footbal those days (remember Cruyff, Rijkaard, van Basten, van Gaal, Koeman).

If Puyol must score the final goalagainst Germany then that is a bit dissapointing i think

We have Robben, Sneider, Kuyt etc.

So its gonna be a walkover tomorrow

    3-1

we create Barca............so bye bye Spain

    Arstider........ cheers my friend

  12. Welcome topper. You Dutch boys must be getting excited about tomorrow but I am afraid you are deluded if you think your going to hammer Spain. Sneider is good though and I would love Chelsea to sign him!

    Good luck!

  13. How long till the slagging of liverpool starts then longy?!! i think we`ll lose torres and maybe steve gerrard but that might be good if roy gets some money to start rebuilding. Spain for the cup for me, i`ve got them in our sweepstake at work so i`ll be hundred quid up!

  14. Welcome corbypunk well I am not expecting great things from Liverpool with Roy in charge to be honest. I know we are after Torres but personally I don't want him at Chelsea. He is a bit too injury prone for 50/60 quid if you ask me.

Good luck on the hundred quid!

  16. They got there in the end biopunk!

  17. They did, but I'll give Uruguay their due: Diego Forlan was impressive...

Definitely one of the better matches!

  19. Yes he was biopunk. It makes you wonder why he didn't make it at Man Utd

Welcome Juanito - I could swear Cruyff played for Holland and not Spain! I think the Spanish will do it though.

  21. As good as Spain are at keeping the ball, I have a sneakin' suspicion Holland will win tomrrow. I'm going for a 1-0 to the dutch.

  22. Welcome Marky. As long as its a decent game and Spain win in 90 mins....I don't mind who wins!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Longy - Spain are a machine with Barca at its heart. Much a I admire their relentless passing and pressing game, I do rather yearn for the cut and thrust of counter attacking football - not that Holland really offer that. Agree with you Longy, the footie has been a disappointment but I'm going for 2-1 Spain win. Well deserved. Congrats on the new blog by the way - I'll be with you during the season shouting for Utd.

  25. Welcome Mullers and Nuzz.

It should an interesting game on paper Mullers but paper is funny old stuff and I've been left disappointed many times during this World Cup.

Nuzz - The reason I bet on Germany and Spain this weekend is partly due to Paul the octopus!

  26. I aint got a clue about Paul the Octopus and who he chose, I just heard about him, shook my head and thought maan! it's all a bit fucked up! Are you gonna be posting any football realated tunes up here? I've a recollation of seeing Kevin Keegan on T.O.T.P or was I hallucinating? You're gonna have a good thang going on here. Respect!

  27. The octopus said Spain Nuzz and it aint been wrong so far!
